What's a Glissando?  Read on...

glissando

PRONUNCIATION:   gl-sän´d  (click on the trumpet for a voice pronunciation)

NOUN : Music Inflected forms: pl. —di (-d) or —dos
A rapid slide through a series of consecutive tones in a scalelike passage.

ETYMOLOGY: French glissade, See GLISSADE. + -ando. as in accelerando

My wife, Heidi, came up with the name not only for its musical connotations, but more importantly because she thought (and I agree) that the waves moving past a hull sounded like glissandos.  Listen for yourself sometime!
